Individual project Students are required to carry out a detailed investigation of some topic related to petroleum geoscience or engineering. We endeavour to arrange financial support for students accepted on to the courses, negotiating annually for industrial scholarships. Concerns the origin, structure and internal geometry of reservoirs and the creation, migration and entrapment of hydrocarbons.

Specialist topics in geology, reservoir simulation and economics provide graduates with the foundation for further specialist qualifications in these areas. Where English was not the medium of instruction during previous wart, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.
Specialist topics in geology, reservoir simulation and economics provide graduates with the foundation for further specialist qualifications in these areas.
Reservoir Simulation Involves the construction of detailed, mathematical models of reservoirs, as a means of predicting reserboir behaviour and performance. An understanding of fluid flow and drive mechanisms underpins the sub surface flow behaviours that we aim to predict in our simulation models. The relevance of this education combined with careful selection of candidates has encouraged oil and oilfield engineerig companies to target Heriot-Watt for recruitment of graduates over the years.
Course content Career opportunities Entry requirements Fees and funding Course content Detailed course guide Students on the Petroleum Engineering MSc undertake eight taught courses and two research projects.
It includes a wide range of subjects which are relevant to the industry and meet the needs of the Petroleum Engineering profession.
Institute of Petroleum Engineering — Heriot-Watt University
Heriot-Watt University is committed to providing opportunities to applicants who have a wide range of prior experiences through Recognition of Prior Learning RPL. Students should budget additional funds sufficient to cover living expenses such as accommodation, travel to and from the university, heeriot, clothing and leisure pursuits.
Project work provides an opportunity for ideas and methods, assimilated through lectures and tutorials, to be applied to real field evaluation and development design problems. Explain development of reservoir shape in terms of deformation processes.
Our students come to us from all parts of the world; in the last few years the students in all three MSc programmes in IPE have come from over 30 different nations. During the project students have access to state-of-the-art computer technology and industry standard software. Groups of about 10 students are provided with real data from a field, similar to that which hefiot be available to an Operator prior to a development decision.
enineering The general selection criteria are ability and employability and, in addition to academic qualifications, experience, personality and motivation are taken into consideration. Beyond evaluating the size and productivity of a reservoir, any decision on whether to develop a field is based on its value. Involves a range of engineering disciplines in the design and safe construction of exploration and development wells.

Each of these, which lasts only 1 or 2 days, is known as a compulsory course component. See our range of scholarships and sponsored scholarships. Our students Students on the Petroleum Engineering course come from a wide variety enggineering backgrounds, including directly from undergraduate degrees such as chemical, mechanical, mining and petroleum engineering as well as geology and applied chemistry. Download our ' How can we help your business? Students are also required to produce a brief paper suitable for an academic publicationsummarising their work.
The aim of this course The overall aim of this course is to: Project work provides an opportunity for ideas and methods assimilated through lectures and tutorials to be applied to resrvoir field evaluation and development design problems. There are also a number of industrial sponsorships available every year to UK and EU students coming to pursue the degree on-campus in Edinburgh.
Understand the physical principles of the tools used in logging.
Based on the knowledge gained from the taught parts of the course, students will be formed into groups which mimic a multidisciplinary team in an oil company. See our range of resservoir entry, undergraduate, postgraduate taught and PhD scholarships and discounts.
