Statistical Mechanics by R.K. Pathria
Want to Read saving…. Chapter 6 The Theory of Simple Gases.
We trust that this classic text, which has been widely acclaimed for its clean derivations and clear explanations, will continue to provide further meechanics of students a sound training in the methods of statistical physics. It also explains the correlation functions and scattering; fluctuationdissipation theorem and the dynamical structure factor; phase equilibrium and the Clausius-Clapeyron equation; and exact solutions of one-dimensional fluid models and two-dimensional Ising model on a finite lattice.
Many of Pathria's derivations for mechanocs, deriving the conditions for Bose-Einstein condensation are much shorter and simpler statisitcal those in other texts. Rather, they are focused on rigorously deriving the laws and equations that you need in order to perform physical calculations. No trivia or quizzes yet. From my conversations with graduate students, I think most agree that this is one of the best graduate level stat mech books out there.

Statistical Mechanics, 2nd edition, R. K. Pathria
The most glaring omission is that there is no mention of the Boltzmann Transport Equation. Its mathematically rigorous comparing with other textbooks and certainly one of the best books out there.
Oct 30, Saleh is currently reading it Shelves: Chapter 1 The Statistical Basis of Thermodynamics. Most would probably agree that finding a good graduate-level textbook on statistical mechanics is a near-impossible endeavor.
This is very very bad. If you are looking for a gentler introduction to statistical mechanics, I can't recommend enough "Thermal Physics" by Kittel and Kroemer. Preview — Statistical Mechanics by R.

Chapter 5 Formulation of Quantum Statistics. Key Features Bose-Einstein condensation in atomic gases Thermodynamics of the early universe Computer simulations: Pathria is also the author of a well-known graduate text book on Statistical Mechanics, which has recently appeared in its thir Professor Raj Kumar Pathria is a theoretical physicist and an Urdu poet. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Graduate texts, in my experience, rarely attempt to provide physical insight.
This is the de facto standard for an stayistical course in statistical mechanics. Steve Schlutow rated it it was ok Feb 17, It is not helpful for the readers. After a historical introduction, this book presents chapters about thermodynamics, ensemble theory, simple gases theory, Ideal R.k.pathrka and Fermi systems, statistical mechanics of interacting systems, phase transitions, and computer simulations.
